Everyone has seen or heard the stats about the short tenures of pastors to children, youth and college students. The common narrative is that they spend two to three years on average at any given church. There also currently seems to be a shortage of these next gen leaders across the nation.
With the knowledge and expectation that God calls us to serve, we should champion service and ministry as we do other calls to obedience.
Thus, if the Word is the priority, perhaps more engagement in memorizing and understanding it should be part of youth ministry strategy.
A good theology of youth would change the way we do youth ministry, but it might also affect the way we think of church.
So what should your expanded view of youth ministry look like? In the arena of teenagers in the youth group, focus on moving students from spiritually lifeless to fruitful.
